Objectives: Liver fibrosis is an inevitable stage of chronic liver diseases developing into hepatic cirrhosis and the pathological basis is excessive deposition and abnormal distribution of the extracellular matrix(ECM).The activation and proliferation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are key links of the form of liver fibrosis. The HSC can synthesize the essential components of ECM——collagenⅠ,collagenⅢ,glucoprotein and proteoglycan and it is also the kyto-resource of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs)and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases(TIMPs). MMP is the capital enzymes of the degradation of ECM and TIMP is the specific inhibiting factors. MMP and TIMP regulate the balance of production and degradation of ECM.As a kind of drastic inflammatory cytokine IL-1 has multiple biological function. IL-1 can start hepatic fibrosis and accelerate the development through stimulating liver inflammatory reaction. And it can enhance the synthesis of collagen of HSCs, induce adhesion factor and its receptor to express and facilitate the synthesis and excreting of TGF-βand TIMP.
