Objective: Syringomyelia, a common chronical degenerative disease in neurosurgery, characteristic as liquid porosis and gliosis, onsets delitescenctly and has a torpid progress. The clinical manifestation of syringomyelia includes dissociated sensory disorder at different levels, dysfunction of lower motoneurons, dysfunction and dystrophy of long tract, loss of work capacity or viability due to tactable pain and dysfunction of activity. Though causes of this disease are not clear, it relates to many factors such as Arnold-chiari malformation, birth trauma, spinal cord injury and the like.At present, drug treatment is not effective. Although some cases may be relieved in part by decompression of posterior cranial fossa or cavernostomy, it is still thorny to cure it. Moreover, more and more cases have been discovered due to extensive utilization of MRJ recently. So prevention and cure of syringomyelia must be strengthened. We have found ischemia and edema in upper cervical spinal cord with hypo-signal in TW1 and hyper-signal in TW2 and can not be inhibited by FLAIR in our previous study. This phenomenon was defined as prophase of spinal cord cavitation, which was consistent with presyrinx state as recently called by other researchers. This state lasts 2 weeks or so.
