| Alpinia officinarun Hance has been widely used to cure bellyache, diarrhea and digestibility ulcer which are induced by urgent and slow gastritis and enteritis in clinics. Because anti gastric ulcer effects of flavonoids have been reported and Alpinia officinarun contains a lot of flavonoids components, many medical scientists pay much attention to the studies on anti gastric ulcer effects of Alpinia officinarun flavonoids. Herein, anti gastric ulcer effects of galangin which separated from Alpinia officinarun and identified were investigated by using pyloric ligation model of rats, ethanol model of mice and indomethacin model of rats, which offered some data to the new medicine research of Chinese traditional medicine.1. Extraction, purification and identification of Alpinia officinarun galanginAfter ethanol and CHCl3 extracting of Alpinia officinarun followed with silica gel separation, initial components were purified by using column chromatography with Sephadex LH-20 and identified by TLC comparing with pure galangin. Then the obtained galangin was identified by NMR.2. Effects of galangin on experimental gastric ulcer of animals2.1 Effect of galangin on gastric ulcer of rats made by pyloric ligationSixteen male SD rats were divided into two groups at random. After i.g. administration of saline or 100 mg·Kg-1 galangin respectively once a day for 5 days, the rats were forbidden the diet for 24h and used to establish gastric ulcer model by pylorus ligation. Then, the gastric juice, general acidity and ulcer index were detected. The results showed that gastric juice volumes of control and galangin group were 15.07±4.66,7.89±3.69 ml (P 0.01), general acidities were 100.62±37.87,61.91±27.2 mmol·L-1 (P 0.05) , and ulcer indexes were 4.99±2.02,1.41±1.75 (P 0.01)...
