| Objective: Epilepsy is a series of chronic brain diseases induced by the abnormal discharges of the brain neurons, it is characteristic of brief central nervous system, their seizures are often abrupt and repeated. Epilepsy is a common disease of neurology, its repeated seizures have induced evident drops in patients, life qualities and social working abilities, so epilepsy is harmful not only to the individual but also to the whole society. The neurons of brain cortex have biological electrical activities, which have two forms of expression: one is the cortical induced potential, that is the restrict potential change produced by part of brain cortex aroused by outside stimulus; the other is spontaneous brain potential activities, that is the persistent and rhythmic potential variety of the brain cortex. EEG can offer reliable grounds for the diagnosis of epilepsy, the classification of epileptic disorders, and the localization of the source of epileptic activity. With the control of clinical seizures, EEG will gradually improve or become normal correspondingly, especially the EEG IEA gradually reduces or disappears and EEG background activities become stable. Therefore, we can dynamically observe the changes of EEG IEA and background activities and evaluate the medicinal actions and its effects on cortical functions by periodic EEG checks, so as to guide clinical therapy reasonably. Topiramate is a newer antiepileptic drug, we already have had a lot of reports about its clinical effects , but have fewer reports about its effects on EEG which are still not agreement with each other. Methods: A matched-paired and self-comparison design was performed. All the subjects of the study were chosen by strict receptive and... |
