Background: The antitumor effect of polysaccharides was first studied in 1936 by Shear, so far 300 kinds of polysaccharides have been acquired from natural products, of which 100 kinds of polysaccharides extracted from traditional Chinese medicine are reported, most of which have effects of immunoregulation. It is generally agreed that the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine on immunoregulation is relevant to humoral immunity and cellular immunity, especially to the regulation on macrophage (MO). Many kinds of polysaccharides of traditional Chinese medicine can improve the release of cytokine of MO, which may be concerned with the activation of signal passway evoked by its binding with specific recognitin receptor on MO. Manose recrptor (MR), mainly expressed on MO, has mannose -specific recognition domain which mediates phagocytosis and pinocytosis of particles and solutes containing mannose, fucose and N-acetylglucosamine, regulates the release of cytokine and starts the immune response. It is reported that...
