The new-style β-titanium alloy and surface modification of Ti alloy are the two hotspots of titanium system medical material research, which purpose is to satisfied with biomedical material's request for material's mechanical performance and biocompatibility. Supported by the 863 Project (2002AA306070), two types of new medical titanium alloys-Ti-5Zr-5Mo-15Nb (TLE) and Ti-5Zr-3Sn-5Mo-15Nb (TLM) were developed, which mainly used for bone, joints and implants; By surface modification to TLE using microarc oxidation, TLE1 in which surface layer titanium oxide existed was developed; and by surface modification to TLE using plasma liquid phase nitridation technique, TLE2 was developed in which surface layer attrition-resistant titanium nitride existed.Biocompatibility evaluation must be carried out for Neotype biomaterial before clinical deploy. In this study, a series of animal tests including skin irritation tests, intradermal reaction tests, oral mucous membrane irritation tests and sensitisation tests were performed to assess the biocompatibility of the new medical titanium alloys- TLE, TLM, TLE1 and TLE2. The main conclusions...
