Background and objective: Gastric carcinoma(GC) is one of the most common mailignant neoplasms in the digestive system.Studies have showed that it is the leading cause of cancer death. Its occurrence is a process that a many factors participate together, its outbreak mechanism up to the present is not clear. The mainreason for death in patients with GC is invasion and metastasis of tumor. What the researchers are more interested in is how to diagnose GC in early stage and to further investigate the mechanisms of invasion and metastasis. The recent discovery of leptin, the product of the ob gene,is an important regulator of food intake and energy expenditure. Subsequently, expressions of leptin or ob-R were detected in a wide variety of tissues with multiple role in hematopoiesis, reproductive control, angiogenesis, cardiovascular medication, immunomodulation and carcinogenesis. Leptin exerts its action through the leptin receptor(ob-R),a member of the cytokine family of receptors. It consists of a single membrane-spanning protein that, through alternative messenger RNA(mRNA) splicing, exists in 6 isoforms.Leptin could strengthen proliferation and diferentiation of cells, enhance aggressiveness of cells, regulate immune function of human body and promote angiogenesis processes, which were the requirements for growth and development of malignant tumors. Therefore calculating leptin has something to do with the occurrence of tumor. Recently, the presence of leptin has also been demonstrated in stomach and thought to be a new gastrointestinal hormone, which plays an important role in digestive physiological activities. Recently it was...
