Objective: To make clear the situation of clinical and nursing personnel resources in Huzhou, and provide theoretical basis for the rational allocation of regional clinical and nursing personnel resources and the program of the education to clinical and nursing personnel resources.Methods: The data, collected from a survey to the general social state including population, economy and the need of health care etc, and the registered clinicians and nursing personnel of all kinds of medical organizations in Huzhou, was analysed with the statistical software of SPSS for Windows ver12.0.1.Results: The number of clinical personnel is 3656; and the clinicians with graduate (bachelor) degree and higher account for 26.3%; nearly a half (47.2%) of clinicians owns the degree of middle-level and junior, while the rate even reachs 73.1% in the hospitals of villages and towns; the ratio of clinicians with senior professional titles to middle and to junior is 1:2.5:5.2. The average number of nursing personnel is 1.02 per thousand inhabitants .The ratio of the beds to nurses is 1:0.33,and the nurses with associate's degree and higher account for 20.1%, with vice high-level professional titles account for 1.1%, and with middle-level professional titles account for 21.5%. There is a positive correlation between the average level of educational backgrounds and professional titles and the regional grades of the medical organization. 96.4% of the nursing personnel with vice high-professional titles haven't got bachelor's degree and higher, 55.0% of the nursing personnel with middle-level professional titles haven't got associate's degree, and 15.2% of the nursing personnel with primary–level professional titles haven't received middle school or higher education in nursing. There is a positive correlation between the level of educational backgrounds or professional titles and the regional grades of the medical organization for clinical and nursing personnel.
