Objective: â‘ To establish a new canine model of deep venous thrombosis that be suit for the study of diagnosis and therapy, and to evaluate its feasibility and stability. â‘¡To evaluate the safety and efficacy of using the Straub Rotarex system for treatment of acute deep venous thrombosis in animal models. Methods: â‘ The iliofemoral venous theombosis was formed in six beagle dogs, and another iliofemoral vein was examined as control lateral in each dog. Under fluoroscopic guidance, the balloon catheters with diameter of 10mm and 6mm were placed into the proximal part of common iliac vein and distal part of femoral vein through external jugular vein and femoral vein, respectively. Then contrast medium was inflated into the balloon to occlude the blood flow and 100U of thrombin was injected through the balloon catheter placed into the femoral vein. The iliofemoral veins on both sides were examined under the ultrasound 1 hour later. The two balloon catheters were deflated and removed 4 hours after being inflated. Antegrade angiography of both iliofemoral veins and pulmonary artery was performed 24 hours after balloon catheters were inflated. Then the animal was sacrificed and the iliofemoral veins on both sides were taken out for pathological study. â‘¡...
