Objective: To gather morphologic evidence for surgical treatment on allergic rhinitis, the changes of the expression of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide(VIP) and nitric oxide synthase(NOS) were observed in pterygopalatine ganglion in rats of allergic rhinitis.Method: Using ovalbumin(OVA) to establish an animal model of allergic rhinitis, we observed the symptoms of all rats and their nasal mucosa with HE staining after 21 days. The VIP positive cells in pterygopalatine ganglion were observed by immunohistochemical technique. The NOS positive cells in pterygopalatine ganglion were observed by histochemical technique.Results: 1. The results of the symptoms and nasal mucosa stained by HE showed that the modified model was good. 2. The numbers of VIP positive neurons, NOS positive neurons and VIP/NOS double-labeled neurons in pterygopalatine ganglion of modified group increased significantly.Conclusion: The number of the VIP positive neurons and NOS positive neurons was significantly increased and VIP/NOS double-labeled neurons were observed in rats of allergic rhinitis...
