Objective:To evaluate the expressions of survivin and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in bladder transitional cell carcinoma (BTCC) and normal bladder tissue and their significances. Methods : The expressions of survivin and bFGF were detected by SP immunohistochemical technique in 46 cases of BTCC and 10 cases of normal bladder tissue. Results : The positive expressions of survivin and bFGF in BTCC were 69.5% and 65. 2%, while no positive expressions were found in normal bladder tissues. There were significant differences between the expressions of survivin and bFGF in normal bladder tissues and BTCC(p<0.01) ; The expression level of survivin and bFGF elevated as the grade and stage got higher in BTCC. The positive rates of survivin in graded, G2, G3 were 43. 9%, 77.3%, 90.0%(G1,G2+G3.p<0.05),in stage of Ta~T1, T2-T4 were 58.1% and 93. 3%( p<0. 05); The positive rates of bFGF in gradeG1, G2, G3 were 43.9%, 72.7%, 80.0% (G1.G2+G3. p<0.05), in stage of Ta-T1, T2-T4 were 54.8%, 86.7%(p<0.05) ; Survivin level positively related with bFGF level. Conclusions : The up-regulated expressions of survivin and bFGF suggest that the abnormal expressions of survivin and bFGF play important roles in the development of BTCC. Survivin and bFGF are good molecular markers of BTCC which are helpful to be used for the assistant diagnosis and the prediction of prognosis of BTCC.
