Part I The clinical analysis of eighty-one patients with sinonasal inverted papillomaObjectiveInverted papilloma is a kind of benign sinonasal tumor which constitutes 0.5% to 4% of all nasal tumors. It has a marked tendency to recur after surgical treatment. The tumour is associated with recurrence and malignancy and during growth it can destroy surrounding tissue. Surgical excision is regarded as the treatment of choice for it. Resection can be performed endoscopically or through an external approach. The use of the optimal surgical approach and technique is of the utmost importance, as it is related to the possibility of recurrence. The aim of the study was to review the clinical characteristic of this tumor and reassess the effect of endoscopic resection and traditional procedure in the management of sinonasal inverted papilloma.MethodsA prospective study and an integrated literature review were done. The course of eighty-one patients treated with endoscopic sinus surgery and surgical excision, including medial maxillectomies and modified Lothrop procedures were analyzed.
