Objective To investigate the usefulness of serum TCC,CRP,TNF-α,IL-6, S-100, NSE concentrations in correlation with infarct volume and prognosis in patients with acute ischemic stroke.Measures: 58 patients at Shangdong Provincial Hospital with acute ischaemic stroke presenting less than 24 hours after symptom onset were incorporated into the study. Serum was determined at hospital admission and 1,2,3,4,6,10 days after symptom onset. Functional outcome 3 months after stroke (modified Rankin scale score) and final infarct volume on day 7 by means of standardized volumetry of brain images. Results There was no difference in TCC concentration between stroke patients at the stroke onset(baseline) and controls, TCC increased significantly at 48 h, reached maximum at 6 days, was still increased at 10 days. The TCC concentration correlated significantly with the CRP concentration. (2) There was no difference in CRP concentration between stroke patients at the stroke onset(baseline) and controls, Peak blood levels of CRP were found on day 4. (3) The IL-6 concentration reached maximum at the stroke onset(baseline) and the second peak blood levels were foundon day 3. (4) There was no difference in TNF-α concentration between stroke patients and controls. (5) The NSE concentration at the stroke onset(baseline) was...
