Object: To study the effects of CoHS on the antiasthmatic pharmacology, and to make a preliminary investigation of its therapeutic mechanism. Methods:The action of relieving asthma was studied with the asthma model induced by histamine-acetylcholine and ovalbumin. The direct relaxant effect of CoHS on His or Ach-induced contraction were observed in the isolated guinea-pig tracheal experiment. The lung overfall of rats were measured. In addition, the phenolsulfonphthalein excretion were measured and the action of relieving cough were also studied with the cough model induced by ammonia water .The therapeutic mechanism of CoHS was studied with the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in mice, era edema induced by xylene in mice, licking response induced by 4-aminopyridine in mice and immunon organ weights in mice.Result: CoHS could significantly prolong the asthma latent period and relieve spasm in guinea pigs with histamine-acetylcholine-induced asthma, prolong spasm latent period and reduce shock attack in guinea pigs with ovalbumin-induced astma and reduce lung overfall volume in rats.It could directly relax His or Ach-induced contraction of the isolated guinea-pig tracheal. CoHS could significantly prolong the cough latent period and cough times within 3 min and increase phenol red secretion from trachea in cough model induced by ammonia water. Moreover, CoHS could obviously inhibit the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in mice, era edema induced by xylene in mice, prolong the latent period and reduce the licking number in licking response induced by 4-aminopyridine in mice.In addition, CoHS could also increase the Thymus index and Spleen index in mice. Conclusion: CoHS have the effects of tracheal-relaxantion, anti-inflammation, immno-midulation and removing the phlegm.
