| In this paper we studied the effect of SY on growth of transplantable tumors. The effects of SY on immune system were also examined in mice bearing tumor or treated by cyclophosphamid (CTX). We studied the effect of SY on the growth of sarcoma S180 (S180), hepatocellular carcinoma H22(H22) and Lewis Lung cancer (LLC). The results showed that SY (60mg/kg240mg/kg) significantly inhibit the growth of the three kinds of tumors and the inhibition rates are more than thirty percent. SY significantly promoted the anti-fatigue and anti-hypoxia ability and increased the spleen and thymus index in mice. We examined the effect of SY on the growth of H22 in mice treated by lower dose CTX. The results showed that the tumor weights in the groups treated by CTX and SY were significantly decreased compared with the CTX group. The effects of SY on the immune system in mice bearing tumors were also studied and the results showed that SY significantly promoted the transformation of T lymphocyte stimulated by concanavalin A and increased the activity of interleukin (IL-2) and natural killer (NK) cell. The function of peritoneal macrophage was effectively increased compared with the control group. The therapeutic dose CTX was used to produce the depression of immune function, and we studied the effect of SY on immune system in model mice. The results showed that CTX could seriously produce the depression on the carbon clearance rate, the formation of serum hemolysin and the delayed type hypersensitivity and decrease the number of white blood cell and SY effectively turnover the depression caused by CTX. SY significantly inhibit the spontaneous pulmonary metastasis of LLC. All the results indicated that SY could significantly inhibit the growth of sarcoma S180, H22 and LLC and it suggested the potency as an anti-tumor medicine. SY could effectively promote the function of the immune system in mice bearing tumor and turnover the depression on the immune system induced by CTX in mice. The results indicated that the anti-tumor activity of SY could be related to the effect on the immune system and the further mechanism needs to be investigated. |
