CS is the extracts of one traditional Chinese medicine. Many studies showed that they could enhance the immune function of human body. Recent studies on the anti-tumor activity of Chinese medicine indicated that some of the components could inhibit the growth of several kinds of tumors and the effect could be partially related to the influence on the immune system. The present experiments aimed to study the effects of CS on the transplantable tumors, sarcoma S180, hepatocellular carcinoma H22 and Lewis Lung cancer, and the effects of CS on immunity function in low immunity mice and observe the tumor-inhibiting action of CS on mice bearing tumor. Then we studied on the cellular immunity, First, it was demonstrated that CS enhanced the activity of ConA-induced T lymphocytes proliferation experiment. Secondly, it is demonstrated that CS potentiated the cytotoxic activity of macrophages to neutral red and that of NK cells to K562. Thirdly, the results indicated that CS could increase the activity of IL-2.We also tested the effect of CS on DNCB-induced delayde type hypersensitivity (DTH) in mice injectedCyclophosphamide(CTX) and it was showed CS enhanced this inhibition. However, our results suggested that CS have no the effct on phagocytic function of mononuclear phagocytic system. Then, we focused our researches on the effect of CS to humoral immunity. The experimental data indicated CS produce the formation of serum hemolysin of mice injected CTX.Tne above research suggested that the function of CS on immunologic enhancement maybe mainly operate on cellular immunity. Our research also demonstranted that CS significantly increase the number of the WBC compared with the CTX group. The results suggested that CS (0.038—0.15mg/kg) could significantly inhibit the growth of transplantable mouse sarcoma S180, hepatocellular carcinoma H22 and Lewis Lung cancer in a dose-dependant manner and it suggested the potency as an anti-tumor medicine. CS could effectively promote the function of the immune system in mice loaded by sarcoma S180, hepatocellular...
