The Antimicrobial Activity Of Ozonated Water On S.mutans & S.sobrinus In Vitro

Objectives: (1) To study the feasibility of applying ozonated water on the inhibition of cariogenic bacteria through assessing the antimicrobial activity of ozonated water on S. mutans & S. sobrinus in vitro; (2) To find out the functional requirement of the ozone generator in practice.Methods: (l)The concentration of the ozonated water was determined by using iodine titration so as to protract the time-concentration gradient curve of the ozone generator. (2) Both the antibacterial effects of ozonated water on S. mutans & S. sobrinus of different concentration and different exposed time and the influence of saliva on antibacterial activity of ozonated water were investigated by the enumeration of CFUs. The morphological changes of S. mutans being exposed to ozonated water were examined by using a scan electron microscope.Results: (1) Under controlled laboratory conditions and in the tested time, the concentration of ozonated water produced by the tested ozone generator increased with the growing of the time.
