Objective: To explore wheather EPO would improve the anemia of critical ill patients, lower the ratio of blood transfusion , decrease the amount of RBC transfusion and lead to better clinical outcomesMethods: The prospective randomized control trial was used. In the ICU of west-China hospital, totally 70 patients were brought into the experiment and randomly divided into two groups (EPO group 39, control group 31). Patients in the control group were given chalybeate and Vitamine B12, besides receiving the routine therapy in ICU. The patients in EPO group used EPO on the basis of therapy in the control group. Aiming directly at the serverity of patient, the evaluation of APACHEII SCORE was made when each patient was taken in. Red blood cell(RBC), hemoglobin (HB), haematocrit(HCT), reticulocytes(RET) in the blood were measured at the 1st, 7th, 14th, 21st, 30th day. Blood pressure of each patient in EPO group was recorded once everyday.
