[ Background ] Defensins of vertebrates are small cationic antimicrobial peptides, which are extensively distributed among epithelial cells and phagocytes. They constitute more than 5% of the total cellular proteins of human and rabbit neutrophils. Besides their direct antimicrobial function, they are also as immune effector molecules effecting on epithelial cells and inflammatory cells and regulating the innate and adaptive immunity. Another aspects of defensins activities are their possible roles in modulation of cells signal transduction, promoting cells generation and so on. It's one of the most important aspects to research the non-antimicrobial functions of the defensins at present . We studied initially the effect of rabbits neutrophils antimicrobial peptides(NPs)on interleukin-8 synthesis in A549 alveolar epithelial cells from mRNA and protein levels.[Meathod and Results] The rabbits' abdominal cavities were injected by 350 ml 1% casein to establish peritoneal sterile inflammation animals' models. The peritoneal inflamed efflusions were collected. Cells sediments were collected through centrifuge and akaryocytes were destroyed by deionized...
