Objective We investigated the changes of serum melatonin in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD), to explore the possible relation of melatonin and CHD. Observing the effect of beta -blockers and reperfusion therapeutics on the secretion of melatonin in patients with CHD, to provide basement of formulating prevention and cure acute cardiovascular incident strategy in patients with CHD.Methods Three groups of individuals were studied: ①10 controls; ②20 patients with unstable angina (UA) documented severe coronary heart disease by angiography, before and after taking beta-blockers in therapeutic dosages; ③19 patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), before and after reperfusion therapy. Melatonin was measured radioimmunologically.Result The levels of serum melatonin in patients with UA and AMI were significantly lower than controls 25.45±5.80ng/L, 28.22 ±6.34ng/L and 47.03 ±5.62ng/L respectively (all P < 0. 05). The levels of serum melatonin excretion in patients with UA after treated with beta-blockers, 10.06±2.04ng/L was lower significantly than those patients not received beta-blockers 25.45±5.80ng/L. The levels of serum melatonin excretion in patients with AMI after reperfusion therapy, 39.68±5.96ng/L was higher significantly than those patients not received reperfusion therapy 28.22±6.34ng/L (all P < 0. 05). The levels of serum melatonin...
