Objectives To establish the normal range of cardiac function indicesby echocardiography, and ones of flow propagation velocity (Vp) by color M-mode Doppler in early newborns (a week after birth). To investigate the value of Vp in reflecting the left ventricular diastolic function in early newborns, and in assessing cardiac function of the neonates with asphyxia. To analyze the correlation between heart function and the ECG, CK-MB, Apgar score in the neonates with asphyxia. Methods One hundred and four normal early neonates and fifty-sixasphyxial neonates with myocardial damage were divided into Group Control and Group Myocardial Damage. Their heart function indices by echocardiography, and especially Vp by color M-mode Doppler were measured and compared. In addition, Electrocardiogram (ECG) and serum creatine kinase MB isoenzyme (CK-MB) and Apgar scores were analyzed in asphyxial neonates. Results ① The normal range of heart function indices in earlynewborns including left ventricular EF59.00~81.94%,FS 27.00~45. 38%,SV3.69~ 8.11ml, CO 0.494~0.926 L/min, CI 2.91~4.75L/min · m~2,MVCF 1.36~1.76circ/s,LPEP/LVET 0.19~0.27,LVAT/LVET 0.18~0.22,E 46.94~88.50,A 39.83~74.33cm/s,E/A 0.85~1.55, DT 96~130ms,IVRT 31~60ms,Vp 27~47cm/s; right ventricular RPEP/RVET0.19~0.27, RVAT/RVET 0.19~0.28,E 42.15~76.30cm/s,A 40.42~67.54cm/s,E/A 0.78~1.44,DT 86~ 124ms. (2) Heart function indices of the hypoxial neonates with myocardial damage changed in larger degrees compared with ones of the normal neonates. The systolic function damage of right ventricle was more serous than ones of left ventricle. (3) The heart function indices with higher sensitivity in the hypoxial neonates with myocardial damage were EF, FS, PEP/ET, MVCF, DT and...
