Liver fibrosis is a pathway of chronic liver diseases to liver cirrhosis. Its formation and development is a key of prognosis and turnover in many liver diseases. In our country, there are one hundred and fifty million patients who infected HBV, of the total, about fifteen million are chronic hepatitis B, about 30 percent patients of them develop to liver cirrhosis, even liver carcinoma. At the same time, the incidence of alcoholic liver disease and fatty liver disease is going up with the change of people's living standard and life styles. So, it's very important to prevent and cure liver fibrosis. Early diagnosis and effective treatment are very important for preventing liver cirrhosis and liver carcinoma.More and more researchs indicated that liver fibrosis is reversible. The treatment of liver fibrosis by using traditional Chinese medicine began in the middle of 1970's. It showed satisfactory clinical effect and extensive perspective via comparing the biochemistry, immunity, especially pathematology before and after treatment. Curcumin, a phenols yellow pigment of turmeric obtained from the rhizomes of the plant Curcuma longa Linn, is commonly used as coloring agent in foods, drugs and cosmetics. The beneficial effects of turmeric have been postulated to be due to curcumin. Considerable evidences suggested curcumin has many pharmacological activities such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and so on. The researchs also confirmed that curcumin could prevent the genesis and development of liver fibrosis. It could inhibit activation and proliferation of HSC, and induce apoptosis of HSC in time- and dose-dependent manner. To study the relationship of antifibosis of curcumin and expression of cytokines which can activate HSC, we establishe rat...
