In recent years, Near-infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) analysis technique has grown dramatically and is widely used in many areas. The identification analysis of Chinese herb , quantitative analysis of Chinese herb using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy technique were studied in this paper. The main works can be summarized as follows.1. NIR spectroscopy technique was used for quality analysis of Chinese herb with Salvia miltiorrhiza and Astragalus herb as an example. NIR diffuse reflectance spectra of samples were collected with Salvia miltiorrhiza from 9 areas and Astragalus from 11 areas. Some of the samples were randomly selected to form the standard set which was used to set up the Discriminant Analysis model respectively. The results showed that the proposed method could reflect the quality differences of Salvia miltiorrhiza and Astragalus herbs and distinguish the herbs correctly from those of other production areas.2. NIR spectroscopy was used for quantitive analysis of Chinese herb with Salvia miltiorrhiza and Astragalus herb as an example. The determination of active components of Salvia miltiorrhiza and Astragalus herb was carried out using NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Partial least square regression (PLSR) was utilized to build the calibration models spectra with HPLC as a reference method for each component. RMSEP for salvianolic acid B and tanshinoneâ…¡A were 0.259 and 0.0232(dried samples),0.0635 and 0.0123 (undried samples),respectively. RMSEP for astragaloside was 0.0312.As the research above shown, the NIR technique can detect samples without complex pretreatment and obtain a multiple component result rapidly and correctly. The technique owns many advantages that the traditional method don,t have. The proposed method can be applied to fast detection and quality control in industrial process. In a word, the application of NIRS technique has good potential in the modernization of TCM.
