PURPOSE: To exploit the three dimensional craniofacial model technique and apply in oral-maxillofacial surgery, especially in free vascularized fibula transplant , distraction osteogenesis and maxillofacial complicated fractures. METHODS: using CT and rapid prototype technique to make three dimensional craniofacial model for 25 patients from 2001 to 2006, including 12 patients for free vascularized fibula transplants , 8 patients for distraction osteogenesis and 5 patients for internal fixation. Complete and accurate surgery simulation was performed on the model before all of the operations. RESULTS: By using three dimensional model, all preoperative design could be performed completely and patients with mandibular bone defects and malformation had good results. CONCLUSION: By replicating the prototype of the disease, the three dimensional craniofacial model can be used to improve the diagnosis and according to the preoperative design and surgery simulation , it wish to be the standard procedure of oral-maxillofacial surgery .
