Objective To study the effects of glutamine on patients undergoing postoperative chemotherapy for gastric carcinoma.Methods 72 cases were randomly divided into experimental and control groups: experimental group, parenteral nutrition with alanine-glutamine(Ala-Gin); control group, standard diet. The determinations made before and after 1 day of chemotherapy: the level of glutamine(Gln) in plasma; the total protein(TP), albumin(Alb), retinol-binding protein(RBP), pre-al-bumin(PA), and transferrin(TFN); the D-lactate, immunoglobumin and T-lymphocyte subgroups; interleukin-1α(IL-1α), interleukin -2(IL-2), interleukin -6(IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α); Observe the symptoms of vomitus, diarrhea and appetite.Results Compared to control group, the level of glutamine. Alb, RBP, PA, TFN, IgA, IgG, CD4~+ and CD4~+/CD8~+ in experimental groups were increased significantly; the D-lactate in plasma and IL-1α , IL-6 TNF-α were decreased significantly(P<0.05); the loss of symptoms of vomitus and diarrhea.
