Comparison Of Three Different Multifocal IOLs

Purpose:With the development of the intraocular lens in recent 50 years,the problem of visusl quality of intraocular lens have been deseased. In recent years, ReSTOR(Alcon Inc),Tecnis Multifocal(AMO Inc),ReZoom(AMO Inc) have been introduced as newly developed multifocal IOLs. ReSTOR and Tecnis Multifocal are the kind of diffractive multifocal intraocular lens ,but ReZoom is the kind of refractive multifocal intraocular lens .Most of the studies are intreased in the compare between multifocal intraocular lens and monofocal intraocular lens .In this study we compared the post-operative visual performances with those IOLs.Methods:Subjects,who come from dalian medical university cataract research center, were those who implanted 3 different multifocal IOLs,who have no ocular disease but binocular cataracts ReSTOR10 eyes of 5 patients,Tecnis Multifocal 12 eyes of 6 patients, ReZoom 10 eyes of 5 patients.we compared them with 10 eyes of 5 patients implanted monofocal IOL,AQ310NV(canon-staar).The mean age were;66±17,67.6±8.2,74±5 and 70.2±5.7.At a month postoperatively,comtrast sensitivity was evaluated under the conditions of 20lux,50lux and 500lux.Also,best-corrected distance visual acuity , distance-correetcted near visual acuity and middle visual acuity were examined at 1,3 and 6 months.We also evaluated the spectacle dependence ,unwanted visual symptoms and patient satisfaction.Results:At 1 months mean best-corrected distance visual acuity were: ReSTOR 1.1 Tecnis Multifocal 1.1,ReZoom 1.1 AQ310NV1.12. meandistance-correetcted near visual acuity were:1.44,1.5,1.3 and 0.8. At 6 months,mean best-corrected distance visual acuity were: ReSTOR 1.16 Tecnis Multifocal 1.15,ReZoom 1.16 . mean distance-correetcted near visual acuity were:0.55,1.0,1.0 .Mean uncorrected distance visual acuity were ReSTOR 1..07 Tecnis Multifocal 0.99,ReZoom 1.04. mean uncorreetcted near visual acuity were:0.62,0.95, and 0.35. uncorrected middle visual acuity(66cm) were ReSTOR 0.5 Tecnis Multifocal 0.66,ReZoom 0.52. uncorrected middle visual acuity(1m) were ReSTOR 0.89 Tecnis Multifocal 0.68,ReZoom 0.49.We found mo significant difference bwteen those three IOLs and AQ310NV on contrast sensitivity under all conditions.Visual phenomena,mainly glare and halos,whereas spectacle independence and patients and patient satisfaction were high.Conclusion:Result Those restlts support that ReSTOR and Tecnis Multifocal,which are diffractive,are superior to monofocal IOL on near distance-correetcted near visual acuity.
