Objective: To study the relationship between the expression of pS2 protein and estrogen receptor ( ER) and progesterone receptor (PR),C-erbB2 status and prognosis in breast cancer .Methods: Applying immunohistochemical method , the expressions of pS2 protein, ER, PR and C-erbB2 in the 52 cases of breast cancer were detected. Results: The positive rate of pS2 protein,ER, PR and C-erbB2 were 59. 6 % (31/52),61. 5 %(32/ 52),50.0% (26/ 52)and 48.1%(25/ 52) respectively in the 52 patients. There was significant correlation between pS2 protein and menopausal status ,ER status , PR status respectively . pS2 was associated with mentral status(p<0.05).pS2 protein expression levels in the premenopausal group and the postmereopausal group were83.9%(39/62) and 23.8 % (5/21) respectively. Neither tumor size , clinical stage ,nor lymph node status was significantly related with the expression of pS2 protein. pS2 expression levels in the more-than-5-year-surrival group and the less-than-5-year-survival group were 72.0% (21/52) and 34.0% (10/52) respectively, the difference had great significance ( P<0.01).Patients with pS2 protein positive expression had higher 5-year-survival rate than those with pS2 protein negative expression .Conclusion: pS2 protein appears to be an independent and valid prognostic factor of breast cancer, and detection of pS2 protein expression was useful for treatment of breast cancer .
