Objects: To study the effects of quercetin on inhibition of metastasis in human gastric cancer cell line MGC-803.Methods: Cells were divided into the gastric cancer cells group(MGC-803 cells only)and the quercetin-treated group (40μmol/L quercetin) . The positive expression rate of VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 were detected by immunocytochemical staining. The expression of VEGF-C mRNA,VEGFR-3 mRNA was observed by semiquantive reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).Results: Experiments of immunity show that, a great deal of expression of VEGF-C protein and VEGF-C mRNA can be detected in the gastric cancer cells group. But after 48h since the disposal of the quercetin, the expressions of VEGF-C protein and VEGF-C mRNA decreased significantly (P <0.01).It show,in the experiment of the volume of VEGF-C mRNA and VEGFR-3 mRNA in gastric cancer cells, with the manner of VEGF-C mRNA and VEGFR-3 mRNA, that the expression of them all decreased after 48h since the disposal of the quercetin. The comparation between the two experiments have the statistics signification(P <0.01).Conclusion:Quercetin could inhibit the metastasis of MGC-803 cells. It possibly works by decreasing the protein expression of VEGF-C,VEGFR-3 and VEGF-C mRNA,VEGFR-3 mRNA expression.
