The Study On Relationship Of Mental Health And Locus Of Control, Self-esteem, Personality Trait, Coping Style Of Medical Freshmen

Object:The purpose of this study were find out the mental health of medical freshmen,according to the type and characteristic,to find the principle and path by classification guidance and education, and furtherly explored how locus of control, self-esteem,personality trait, coping style were affecting on mental health in order to set up the path model of effect on the mental health of medical freshmen.Method:"Symptom Check List 90 (SCL-90) ", "Internality, Powerful Others, and Chance Scale(IPC)","The Self-Esteem Scale(SES)","Cattell the Sixteen Personality Factor Text or Questionnaire(16PF)"and"Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ)" Were conducted to survey a cluster sampling of 700 medical students in grade 1 at LAN Zhou university .The SCL-90 tested the mental health of medical freshmen, including Somatization,Obsessive-Compulsive,Interpersonalsensitivity,depression, Anxiety,Hostility,Photic anxiety,Paranoid ideation and Psychoticism;The IPC tested the attributional style of medical freshmen,including internal attribution and external attribution;The SES tested the self-esteem of medical freshmen;The 16PF tested the personality trait of medical freshmen;The SCSQ tested the coping style of medical freshmen,including positive coping style and negative coping style. All these relevant data had analyzed by statistical software of SPSS 11.5 FOR WINDOWS.Conclusion:The mental health of medical freshmen were good on the whole by screening, but the problem of mental health expressed on Interpersonal sensitivity, Obsessive-Compulsive, depression, Paranoid ideation.The mental health of medical freshmen is worse than that which had been researched before 3 years at the university. especially in Interpersonal sensitivity, Obsessive-Compulsive,Paranoid ideation,Anxiety,Photic anxiety;better than the other university students' mental health in gansu province, especially in Hostility, Paranoid ideation, depression, Photic anxiety;higher than china youth normal.The mental health of female medical freshmen is different from the male significantly, especially in Hostility, Photic anxiety;The mental health of rural medical freshmen is different from the urban significantly, especially in Interpersonal sensitivity,depression,Anxiety,Psychoticism,worse than urban students' . The mental health of single children medical freshmen is different from the non-single children significantly,especially in Psychoticism,Photic anxiety,depression,Anxiety, better than non-single children' , their mental health scored higher in Obsessive-Compulsive, Interpersonal sensitivity, Paranoid ideation.Locus of control and self-esteem are two fundamental factor of the core self-evaluation, are able to predict the mental health of medical freshmen. by clustering analysis find out that the mental health of medical freshmen is significantly different, still in personality trait and coping stytle,find out the principle and path by classification guidance and education,according to the type and characteristic.The personality trait influenced mental health by locus of control and self-esteem,also directly. The personality trait is one of the main factors which influenced mental health. furtherly explain that the intermediate factor of locus of control and self-esteem are able to predict the mental health of medical freshmen. the positive coping style of medical freshmen is one of the direct factors which influenced mental health. The medical freshmen of personality trait,locus of contrl,coping style influence mental health by self-esteem,therefore,self-esteem is the core factors which influenced mental health.The harvest of this subject is expected to provide references theoretics and practicality to the study of mental health, psychological intervention, psychological consulation,clinical psychological test,psychological treatment on students and medical freshmen in particular.
