Objective: This study evaluated the neuroprotection effect of aspirin on neuron apoptosis following chronic spinal cord compressive injury in rats.Method: The chronic spinal cord compression model made of 65 Wistar mice(Weight 220~250g) were assigned into the following 4 groups randomly. 30 mice into the aspirin therapy group (Group A),30 mice into the normal sodium (NS) control group (Group B) and 5 mice into the sham operation group (Group C). Applied the TUNEL immunohistochemistry technique labeled of the spinal cord injuring profiles on 1st,3rd,7th,14th,28th days of post operation respectively.Result: Group A reduced the neuron apoptosis, the Apoptosis Index (AI) and the results of locomotor's function scale compare with Group B, those that has significant difference (p<0.05). There is a high relativity between the neuron apoptosis and locomotor's function. Conclusion: These results suggest that the protective effects of aspirin against neuron apoptosis following chronic spinal cord compressive injury.
