Objective: To evaluate the effect of inhibiting scar formation and safetyof reforming viscocanalostomy with absorbable and non-absorbablepericardial patch implantation. Methods: 24 New Zealand white rabbitswere equally divided into three groups as experimental groups A, B, Cand control group D. One piece of non-absorbable pericardial patch wasimplanted into each eye of group A while absorbable one into each eye ofgroup B and amniotic membrane implanted into each eye of groupC. Nothing was implanted in group D during reforming viscocanalostomy.Internal structures and lasting time of the scleral space are observed. Results: The formed filter blebs lasted longer in experimental groups. The pathology process showed that the spaces in sclera of experimentalgroups were remained while scar formation was found in control group atthe twelfth week. Conclusion: Implantation of pericardial patches andamniotic membrane in reforming viscocanalostomy is safe and effectivethat can inhibit scar formation. Reaction caused by absorbable pericardialpatches or amniotic membrane is lighter than that of non-absorbable pericardial patches. Absorbable pericardial patches and amnioticmembrane may lead to better result in inhibiting scar formation.
