In this paper, chemical constituents of Phyllanthus niruri L. and polysaccharide from Sedum sarmentosum bunge were reported.Herbal material of Phyllanthus niruri was extracted with methanol. The extract was concentrated and then a residue was obtained. The residue was distributed in water and then was extracted with solvents such as petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and acetone. The residue was concentrated and extracted with methanol and water, five fractions were obtained. The fractions then were isolated by applying chromatographic methods such as silica gel column chromatography, microporous resin column chromatography, gel chromatography and HPLC. These processes lead twelve compounds were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by means of spectroscopy (IR, UV, MS, 1D-NMR (including 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPTG=90 and DEPT0=135), 2D-NMR (including 1H-1H COSY, HMQC, HMBC, NOESY)), crystal X-ray diffraction techniques and comparisons with authentic compounds and data from reports, eight compounds among them were elucidatd as known compounds asβ- sitosterol(2), Phyllanthin(3), friediln (4),Lup-20(29)) -en-3β-ol (5),Neo-nirtetralin (6), Nirtetralin (7),Hypohyllanthin (8). Compound (1),an steroisomer of Neo-nirtetralin and Nirtetralin, was first reported in our works. The essential oils from the three Phyllanthus species ware investiged in our works. These essential oils were prepared from the three plants of Phyllanthus species by water vapor distillation. Compositions of these essential oils were detected by GC-MS. n-Hexadecanoic acid, 3,3,5-trimethyl- cyclohexanone and 3, 3, 5-trimethyl-cyclohexan-one were the main components in P. arenarius beille, P. urinaria Linn and P. niriru Linn respectively.Isolation and componential investigation of polysaccharide from Sedum sarmentosum Bunge was reported in our paper. 3 polysaccharides were found by determining molecular weight distribution (MWD) of carbohydrate polymer from Sedum sarmentosum Bunge. This carbohydrate polymer was hydrolyzed in acid to give monosaccharides, and then was applied on TLC plane comparing with authentic monosaccharides. The results revealed that monosaccharides which consist of polysaccharide were (+) rhamnose and (+) galactose.
