Objective: To explore the expression and significance of urokinase-type plasminogenactivator(uPA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1(PAI-1) in ovarian epithelial cancer.Methods: Semi-quantitative RT-PCR method was used to detect the mRNA levels of uPA and PAI-1in the tissues of epithelial ovarian cancer from 51 cancer patients and 27 epithelial benign tumortissues and 23 normal ovary tissues and 17 metastatic cancer tissues, the serum levels of uPA andPAI-1 were measured by ELISA, and the relevant clinical pathological parameters were analyzed.Results(1)The relative contents of uPA mRNA and PAI-1 mRNA in epithelial ovarian cancertissue(1.41±0.22,0.66±0.16) were higher than in epithelial benign tumor(0.43±0.24,0.32±0.13; P<0.01; P<0.05) and normal ovarian tissue(0.40±0.22,0.31±0.13; P<0.01, P<0.05).Therelativecontents of uPA and PAI-1 mRNA in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer correlated with theirclinical stage (P<0.01, P<0.01: )and histology grade(P<0.01; P<0.05).The relative contents ofuPA and PAI-1 mRNA in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer did not correlate with pathologictyping(P>0.05; P>0.05), The expression of uPA,PAI-lmRNA in the metastatic cancer tissues werehigher than in the ovarian cancer tissues(P<0.01; P<0.01). (2) The serum levels of uPA and PAI-1in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (1.27 ng/ml±0.45 ng/ml,79.96 ng/ml±8.90ng/ml)were higher than in patients with epithelial benign tumor (0.46 ng/ml±0.45 ng/ml,45.97ng/ml±6.58ng/ml; P<0.01, P<0.01) and normal peoples(0.41ng/ml±0.31ng/ml,43.55ng/ml±6.30ng/ml; P<0.01, P<0.01). The serum levels of uPA and PAI-1 in patients with epithelial ovariancancer correlated with their clinicat stage (P<0.01; P<0.01)and histology grade(P<0.05; P<0.05).The serum levels of uPA and PAI-1 in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer did notcorrelate with pathologic typing(P>0.05; P>0.05).Conclution: uPA,PAI-1 were overexpressed in ovarian epithelial cancer, and they havecorrelation with invasion and metastasis, and they have some correlation with clinical pathologyand prognosis of epithelial ovarian cancer.
