Objective To study micrometastases in conventional pathologic non-metastatic No8A and No11Plymph nodes in the lower third of gastric cancer and to analysis the relationship betweenmicrometastases and clinicopathological features. Methods 41 No8A and 43 No11P lymph nodesharvested from 43 patients who showed histologically free of metastasis were examined byconsecutive sections and TRAP (telomeric repeat amplification protocol) -ELISA (enzyme linkedimmunosorbent assay) respectively. The data were statistically analyzed according to theclinicopathological characteristics of the patients. Results The micrometastases were found in 3 No8Alymph nodes from 3 patients by consecutive sections. The micrometastatic rate of the conventionalpathologic non-metastatic No8A lymph nodes was 7.37% (3/41). The micrometastases were found in4 No11P lymph nodes from 4 patients by consecutive sections. The micrometastatic rate of theconventional pathologic non-metastatic No11P lymph nodes was 9.30% (4/44). In the negative lymphnodes observed by consecutive sections, No8A and No11P lymph nodes of 10 Patients and 15 patientswere detected positively by TRAP-ELISA respectively. The micrometastatic rate of the conventionalpathologic non-metastasis No8A and No11P lymph nodes detected by TRAP-ELISA was 31.71%(13/41) and 44.19%(19/43) individually. It revealed that lymph nodes micrometastases were correlatedwith the size of the tumor(x8A2=14.2446,P<0.05; x11P2=8.4879,P<0.05),and the patients' clinicalstage (x8A2=16.3996,P<0.05; x11P2=12.0217,P<0.05), It also showed that the micrometastatic ratetended to increase as the infiltration more deeply in the wall of the stomach (x8A2=9.9046,P<0.05;x11P2=6.4728,P<0.05), but not correlated with patients' age, gender, general type and histologicaldifferentiation of the tumor. Conclusion The occurrance micrometastatic incidence of No8A andNo11P lymph nodes was higher. The lymph nodes micrometastases were correlated with the size of thetumor, invasion depth of primary tumor and the clinical stage, but not correlated with the patients'age, gender, general type and histological differentiation of the tumor.
