Objective: To investigate the effects of broad-spectrum antibiotics on intestinal microecology and bacterial translocation in sepsis rats. Methods: Eighty SD rats with 30%â…¢degree burns on back were hit by endotoxin intraperitoneally at a dose of 20 mg/kg 24 hours after the burn injury. The rhubarb was given at a dose of 100mg (50mg/kg, q12h) orally just after the second hit. The animals were treated with intraperitoneal injection of ceftriaxone 24h after the injury (60mg/kg, q12h). At the end of treatment, total bacteria in gut and the incidence of bacterial translocation of rats in each group were detected. Results: 1)Broad-spectrum antibiotic obviously reduced the number of entericbacilli, significantly increased the number of enterococci, and seriously inverted the ratio of enterococci and entericbacilli. It also severely decreased the number of anaerobic bacteria and increased the number of fungi. 2)Broad-spectrum antibiotic sharply increased bacterial translocation from the gut, especially the translocation of enterococci. 3)The rhubarb could prevent the loss of the number of entericbacilli and decrease the effects of antibiotics on the gut bacterial selection. Moreover, it also increased the number of anaerobic bacteria. At last, it inhibited bacterial translocation from the gut at early stage of trauma and sepsis. Conclusion: Broad-spectrum antibiotics can induce bacteria flora unbalance in gut, increase bacterial translocation, and reduce intestinal colonization resistance. Rhubarb can protect gut microbiogeocoenosis and inhibit bacterial translocation from the gut at early stage of trauma and sepsis.
