OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between proliferatoractivated receptorγ2 (PPARr2) gene Pro12Ala polymorphism andatherosclerotic cerebral infarction in Hunan population.METHODS: Pro12Ala of PPARr2 in 190 patients withatherosclerotic cerebral infarction and 200 non- cerebral infarctioncontrol subjects were analyzed by PCR-RFLP and electrophoresis, Andtheir data of TG, TC, HDL, LDL, fasting glucose, blood pressure, BMIand IMT datas were collected and reviewd.RESULTS: Allele frequencies of Pro12Ala mutation of PPARγ2Pro12Ala polymophism in the atherosclerotic cerebral infarction groupwere PP 0.900 and PA 0.095; and PP 0.884 and PA 0.116 in the normalcontral group. No significiant difference was found in distribution ofgenotype between these two groups (P>0.05). Distriubition of frequenciesof each genotype of Pro12Ala variant of PPAR-γ2 was not significantlyassociated with BMI, fasting glucose, lipid, blood pressure, and lipidprofiles. In the atherosclerotic cerebral infarction group, subjects withPPARγ2 Allele had higher carotid IMT (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The Pro12Ala mutation in PPARγ2 is notassociated with atherosclerotic cerebral infarction, but the variant ofPPAR-γ2 might promote the increase of carotid IMT in patients suffering from atherosclerotic cerebral infarction.
