Objective To observe the effect of modified utrafiltration on pulmonaryfunction of children less than 10 kilograms weight after cardiopulmonarybypass. Methods From Nove. 2005 to 2006 March, 22 cases with ventricular septaldefect (VSD) associated with mild pulmonary hypertension or not underwentopen-heart surgery. They were divided into the experimental group (n=14)and the control group (n=8 ) at random. The experimental group underwent modified ultrafiltration at the end of CPB, but the control group didn't. Recorded preoperative and postoperative haematocrit (HCT) , aorticcross-clamping time , CPB time, the volume of ultrafiltration and mechanicalventilation time .Observed the changes of pulmonary function.Result Hct of the experimental group at the end of MUF were highersignificantly than that of the control group 15minutes after CPB. There werenot significant differential between the experimental group and the controlgroup in oxygenation index, static compliance, P(A-a)DO2 and mechanicalventilation time. Conclusion It was difficult to reveal the positive role of MUF onpulmonary protection in children with simple congenital defect when CPBtime and operation time were not long.
