Therapeutic Evaluation Of Huoxue-quyu-jiedu Formula On Treating Blood Stasis Syndrome Of Psoriasis Vulgaris

ObjectiveTo evaluate the clinical effects and safety of Huoxue-quyu-jiedu formula which is an experienced recipe of Chinese herbs created by a few famous herbalist doctors in Beijing on blood stasis syndrome of psoriasis vulgaris,and to observe its influence on hemorheology and soakage degrees of skin lesions .Materials and Methods35 patients were selected and randomly divided into 2 groups: therapeutic group (n=18) and control group (n=17). 32 patients finished the clinical trial finally. Both groups contained 16 patients.(1) A randomized, controlled and single blind method was conducted in this study. Patients in the therapeutic group took the Huoxue-quyu-jiedu formula and those in the control group had the recipe prescribed by doctors themselves for 8 weeks. PASI scores and pruritus degrees were recorded before and after treatment.(2) For 10 patients in therapeutic group and 8 patients in control group, the viscosity of whole blood, viscosity of plasma and hematocrit (HCT) were measured with rotary viscosimeter before and after treatment.(3) For 10 patients in therapeutic group and 8 patients in control group, the epidermis and dermis thickness of skin lesions and normal skin were measured with high frequency B-ultrasonography before and after treatment.Results(1) PASI scores reduced in both groups and showed significant difference statistically before and after treatment (P<0.01). Pruritus degrees decreased in the therapeuticgroup, showed significant difference statistically before and after treatment (P<0.01). The effective rates were 72.2% and 82.3% in the therapeutic group and in the controll group respectively. There was no statistical difference in therapeutic effects between the two groups (P>0.05).(2) There were no statistical difference in the hemorheology indexes between the two groups before and after treatment (P>0.05). Plasma viscosity reduced in both groups and showed statistical difference before and after treatment (P<0.05).(3) Between the two groups, there were no statistical difference in the epidermis and dermis thickness of skin rash before and after treatment (P>0.05). It showed significant difference statistically compared with the normal skin (P<0.01). The dermis thickness reduced in both groups and showed significant difference statistically before and after treatment (P<0.01). The epidermis thickness decreased in the control group, showed significant difference before and after treatment (P<0.01).Conclusions(1) The Huoxue-quyu-jiedu formula can significantly improve the skin lesions and pruritus degrees and reduce the PASI scores in blood stasis syndrome of psoriasis vulgaris. Its therapeutic effects were similar with the recipes prescribed by doctors themselves.(2) The Huoxue-quyu-jiedu formula can decrease the viscosity of plasma in blood stasis syndrome of psoriasis vulgaris. Its functions of reducing degrees of blood viscosity and improving microcirculation were similar with the recipes prescribed by doctors themselves.(3) The Huoxue-quyu-jiedu formula can decrease the epidermis and dermis thickness of skin rash in blood stasis syndrome of psoriasis vulgaris. Its function of reducing the soakage degree of skin rash was similar with the recipes prescribedby doctors themselves.
