【Objective】Reviewing the patients of Hepatic Encephalopathy(HE) which have beenhospitalized in both the No. 1 and the No. 2 of anaffiliated hospital of theGuangzhou University of TCM between 2000-2006, collecting and statisticalanalyzing their syndrome and the information. Doing some research include ofthe cause and the pathogenesis of HE, the syndrome differentiation of HE andthe evolving regular pattern between the syndrome and the staging of HE.【Methods】Using hospitalized case of illness material investigation statisticalreviewing method, stating and analyzing the data include of syndrome, basicinformation and other information which comes from 174 patients of HE whichcorrespond with this research. Installing database by the software of SPSS13.0. Using the methods of modern medical science, statistics and the treatmentbase on syndrome differentiation of traditional Chinese medicine to analyzeand explain the cause and the pathogenesis of HE, the relationship between thesyndrome and the staging of HE, the dependablity between syndrome and the resultof laboratory and the turnover of different syndrome.【Results】The syndrome of dampness invading orrifice, the syndrome of heat disturbinghert-mind, the syndrome of stirring wind due to liver yin deficiency, thesyndrome of depletion of yin causing yang collapse each occupies the33.3%, 25.86%, 29.31%, 11.49%of total. These four syndeomes are positivecorrelative with blood ammonia, Child-Pugh staging, the staging of HE and theturnover. [Conclusion]The syndrome of dampness invading orrifice, the syndrome of heat disturbinghert-mind and the syndrome of stirring wind due to liver yin deficiency areto see frequently in the invasion of HE. The syndrome of depletion of yincausing yang collapse as to be the result of the turnover of these threesyndromes above is singularly to appear in the first invasion of HE. The bloodammonia is the direct correlating factor of the syndrome of HE. The bloodammonia is the pathology production which cause to HE. The level of bloodammonia is positive correlative with syndrome. The syndrom is to reflectthe same transformation as the dampness-heat pathogen transmission of thesyndrome differentiation of weifen, qifen, yingfen and xuefen. Thisdevelopmental transmission is at equal pace with the modern medical sciencestudy of the pathogenesis of HE.
