The Influence Of Hyaluronic Acid On The Contents Of IL-6 And IL-8 In Synovial Fluid With Knee Osteoarthritis

Objective To study and primarily analysis the contents of IL-6 and IL-8 inknee synovial fluid (SF) of patients with mild and moderate knee osteoarthritis (OA)and their variation after hyaluronic acid (HA) viscosupplementation, providecorrelated experimental and therapeutic basis for clinical application of HA in OAtherapy.Methods The clinical curative effect of mild and moderate knee OA patients wereevaluated after four-week-therapy, the determinations of IL-6 and IL-8 in synovialfluid (SF) samples were carried out using ELISA from 53 patients with knee OAbefore and after HA viscosupplementation and from 37 healthy volunteers.Results (1) The total effective rate of HA viscosupplementation in mild andmoderate knee OA patients was 96.2%. (2) The contents of IL-6 and IL-8 in kneeSF of mild and moderate OA patients before HA viscosupplementation wassignificantly higher than those of healthy volunteers (P＜0.05). (3) The contents of IL-6 and IL-8 in knee SF of mild and moderate OA patients were decreased alter HAviscosupplementation compared with those of before HA viscosupplementation,especially in the excellent and good groups (P＜0.05), while 2 patients in theineffective group showed little decrease. (4) The contents of IL-6 and IL-8 in kneeSF of mild and moderate knee OA patients alter HA viscosupplementation showed nosignificance compared with those of healthy volunteers (P＞0.05).Conclusion (1) The contents of IL-6 and IL-8 in knee SF of OA patientswere higher than those in healthy volunteers, which can be one of the reference indexin OA diagnosis. (2) The contents of IL-6 and IL-8 in knee SF of OA patients weredecreased after HA viscosupplementation, their variation were correlated with HAcurative effect, thus the variation of IL-6 and IL-8 contents may be used as index forHA curative effect evaluation.
