Objects: To investigate the relationship between the higher order aberrations and the contrast sensitivity in different diopter condition of children with hyperopic amblyopia. Methods: 66 casses of children with hyperopic amblyopia were dilated the pupils with atropine for 7 days and a retinoscopy was executed for everyone. According the diopter and the best corrected vision the children were departed in 2 groups respectively. The wavefront analyzer was also used in the study; and the contrast sensitivity was measured by the CSV-1000 in a dark room. Results: The mean refractive states of the 66 children were + 2.60±1.76D(hyperopic diopter) and + 1.15±0.98D(astigmatic diopter)with an axis of 82.83±27.93D by barred retinoscopy. While recorded by the wavefront aberrations they were +2.76±1.96D and +1.36D±1.02D respectivly with an axis of 85.37±30.72. The difference between them had no significant diffrence. With the increase of the hyperopic diopter, the aberrations at all levels increased in the middle and low hyperopic group and the RMS2,RMSg,C12 were of significant difference (p<0.01). In the middle and low amblyopic group, the aberrations of low amblyopic group was lower than middle group. The difference ofRMS1,RMS5,RMSh was significant too (p<0.01). The contrast sensitivity of all the children decreased at all frequencies, especially at high frequency. The C12 at high order aberrations had significant correlation with the contrast sensitivity at high frequency. Conclusions: The wavefront aberrations and contrast sensitivity can correctly evaluate refractive degree and visual quality in children with hyperopia and could be used as an objective measure.
