Objectives: To investigate investigate the thoracoabdominal incision for surgical treatment of patients with renal cell carcinoma, and to improve the surgical treatment of patients with renal cell carcinoma.Methods: 20 cases with renal cell carcinoma undergoing operation by thoracoabdominal approach were analysed retrospectively, and the effect and advantages of thoracoabdominal incision were summarized respectively.Results: Operation by thoracoabdominal approach were successful in all cases with renal cell carcinoma undergoing radical sugery, for good exposure of operating fileds, intact extirpation of tumors, safe ligation of vessels, decreased volume of hemorrhage, shortened duration of operation, and thorough excision of lymph nodes.Conclusions: In cases with huge renal cell carinaoma at upper or middle pole of kidney, radical sugery by thoracoabdominal approach should be considered.
