Objective To detect the expression of somatostatin receptor subtypes SSTR1~3 in the of gastric carcinoma and discuss the relationship between the expression and characteristics of the tumor. Methods Immunohistochemical staining of somatostatin receptor subtypes was performed by the standard streptavidin-peroxidase(SP)technique in the paraffin sections of 35 gastric carcinomas and 35 normal gastric tissue. The expression was scored according to the percentage of pigmenting cell. The rela- tionship between the expression rate of somatostatin receptor subtypes and the clinicopathological parameters was analyzed and their presence, cellular localization, distribution, erpression pattern in 35 gastric carcinomas were analyzed. Results the antibodies specifically detected the receptors in gastric carcinomas and normal gastric tissues,The expression rate of somatostatin receptor of subtype1,subtype2 and subtype3 in the specimens of gastric carcinoma was 80%(28/35),65.7%(23/35)与51.4%(18/35) respectively,The expression rate of 35 normal gastric tissue was 91.4%(32/35),88.6%(31/35)与80.0%(28/35),there was significant differences of SSTR2,SSTR3 expression between the two group(P<0.05),SSTR1 expression in gastric carcinomas had a decreased tendency, but there was no significant differences of SSTR1 expression between the two group. No difference ofSSTR1~3 expression rate between sex, age, tumor size, location, differential degree, lymph node metastasis, depth of invasion and UICC stage was found, but the expression of SSTR3 was related to the differential degree(P=0.028).Conclusion SSTR1,SSTR2,SSTR3 was detected in gastric carcinoma. The expression rate of SSTR1,SSTR2 does not correlate with the differential degree and UICC staging of the tumor, the expression of SSTR3 was related to the differential degree.
