The bioactive of extracts from the plants of Polygonatum Mill to the Liliaceae and the chemical composition on n-butanol extracts has been studied, the results are as follows:(1)P.cirrhifolium extracts appeared to have inhibitory activities to the tested bacterium and plant pathogenic fungi in various degrees at 1000μg·mL-1,the n-butanol extracts had the strongest inhibition. The inhibitory activities to Eschericha coli,Proteus vulgaris and Bacillus subtilis of bacrerium and Exserohilum turcicum and Botryosphaeia ribis of plant pathogenic fungi. The next is acetic ether; The other extracts has no obivius function.(2)Extracts with different concentrations appeared helpful to seed germinations of the seeds and the root lengths and plant heights of the seedlings in the tested crops at low concentrations and inhibitory to them. Their inhibitory action is strongest at 30 mg·mL-1. The inhibitory intensity to seed germinations, the root lengths and plant heights of the seedlings is acetic ether extracts,n-butanol extracts, water extracts, petroleum extracts.(3)The chemical constituents of n-butanol extracts have been protested. The main ingredients are steriod terpenoide, polysaccharides, phenol resemble and stannin resembles.(4)Using SiO2,ODS and Sephadex LH-20,we got three compounds, they are all steroids saponins. Compound IV is extracted from compoundⅠandⅡwith the two phase acid hydrolysis method. Two compounds have been identified adopting 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and FAB-MS. CompoundⅠis (25R)-spirost-5-en-3-β-ol-3-O-α-L-Rhamnopyranosy (1→2)-[α-L- rhamnopyranosyl(1→4)]-β-D-glucopyra-noside;compoundⅡis (25R)-spirost-5-en-3-β-ol-3-O -α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1→4)-β-D-glucopyra-noside; compoundⅣis dioscin through the thin layer examination in the comparison of standard determination.(5) To plant pathogenic fungi, the inhibitory effect of compoundⅢis best, the average inhibition rate to Exserohilum turcicum,Monilia frugtigen and Botryosphaeia ribis of compoundⅢat 400μg·mL-1 is 83.84%;to bacterium, the inhibitory effect of compoundⅠandⅡi s best, but the effect of its dioscin is relative bad.(6) The inhibitory activity of n-butanol extracts compoundⅠandⅡ,Ⅲshowed obvious correlativity with their concentrations, their inhibitory effects strengthen as their concentrations increased. The average EC50 of compound III(52.29μg·mL-1) ,it is lower than n-butanol extracts(333.64μg·mL-1) almost 5 times).
