Objective:To explore the effect of chitosan on the healing of the blood vessel after operation of microvascular anastomosis. Methods:Thirty rats were devided into the experimental group and the control group randomly. Each group had fifteen rats and was divided into five small groups according to the sample times after the operation. Each small group had three rats. Both femoral arteries of every groups'rats were cut off and then anastomosed end-to-end using 11/0 nylon suture under the microscope, chitosan was injected into the periphery of the microvascular anastomosed in experimental group. No chitosan were injected in control group. All the blood vessel anastomosed were observed with naked eyes at third,5th,7th,10th,14th day after operation, and then the blood vessel anastomosed were examined histopathologically to evaluate the vascular healing. Results:Thirty rats were survived and wounds healed well. The blood vessel patency rate retained 100%.Gross specimen observation showed the vascular adhesion in the experimental group was slighter than that of the control group(P<0.05).Gross specimen observation showed the vascular adhesion in the experimental group was not changed obviously with the operation day extension(P>0.05).But in the control group, gross specimen observation showed the vascular adhesion degree was aggravated with the operation day extension(P<0.05).The growth situation of the stoma EC in the experimental group surpassed the control group at the 5th,7th,10th day after the operation. The blood vessel endoelastic membrane in the experimental group was repaired better than that of the control group. The inflammatory reaction in experimental group was slighter than that of the control group in each operation section. The productive reaction of tunica media and ectal membrane in the experimental group was slightly lighter than that of the control group. The observation under light microscopes showed the vascular healing in the experimental group was better than that of the control group. Conclusion:It suggests that chitosan can reduce the postoperative tissue adhesion and increase the proliferation of the vascular endothelial cells and improve the vascular healing.
