Objective: To observe the efficacy and investigate the mechanism of Kaifei Lipi Tongfu Decoction (KFLPTFD) in treating children asthmatic pneumonia in the aspects of theory and clinic. Methods: According to the random, parallel control principle, 140 asthmatic pneumonia children of phlegm-dampness Syndrome in TCM were randomized into treatment group and control group. The changes fore-and-aft treatment were observed and compared. The treatment group patients were treated with KFLPTFD by clyster; the control group patients were treated with Ribavirin and interferon injection. Seven days for a treatment course. Results: Clinical results indicated the total efficiency of the treatment group had significant differences compared with the control group. The symptoms, signs, physical and chemical test results, such as fever, cough, expectoration of sputum Wong, nose sedition, pulmonary rales, chest x-ray condition improved, and the treatment group were superior to the control group. Clinical safety index results indicated the KFLPTFD was with no toxic side effects for important organs. Conclusions: KFLPTFD is safe and effective in treating asthmatic pneumonia children of phlegm-dampness Syndrome in TCM, and combination with Huoxue therapy are with science and practicality.
