A study on tea consumption and health-related quality of life among residents in Chengdu City[Objective] The study was designed to describe the tea dinking habits among residents in Chengdu, and to learn about the influential factors of drinking tea.; to development and evaluation of Chinese version of Short Form 18 (SF-8), and measure health-related quality of life (HRQOL) with SF-8 for residents in Chengdu; to explore the relationship between tea consumption and health-related quality of life with structural equation model(SEM).[Methods] 1517 citizen from Chenghua and Qingyang district in Chengdu were selected by stratified sampling. The investigators, postgraduate students of public health and medicine, interviewed the residents with standard questionnaire which included basic information, tea drinking information, health information and SF-8.[Results] (1) There were 77.3% residents drunk tea, which was influenced by sex, age, education and occupation. There were 51.5% drunk green tea in tea drinker, and 45.5% drunk jasmine tea. The type of tea associated with sex, age, education, occupation, single income and family income. Tea drinkers drunk 10.44±4.77 times per day, consume tea 59.00±50.47g per week.(2) Cronbach'a coefficient of SF-8 was 0.749; correlation coefficient between SF-8 and SF-36 was 0.559; 3 factors mental health, physical health and integrated health, were sorted, which accounted for 71.741% of the scale' s total variances. All these revealed the good reliability and validity of SF-8. And the average score of Chengdu residents' HRQOL was 88.71.(3) With competition between 4 acceptable SEMs, model 4 was the best one, with x~2 348.820, Df 66, NFI 0.995, RMSEA 0.053. According to model 4, tea drinking is protecting factor to mental health. But the relationship between tea drinking and physical health has no significance. Besides, mental health relates to sports, and physical health relates to age, sex, sports and chronic disease.[Conclusion] The proportion of tea drinkers in Chengdu residents is high, who mainly drink green tea and jasmine tea. SF-8 has good reliability and validity; it can be used widely in the future study. It is feasible to use SEM to analyze the influential factor of HRQOL. Tea drinking, age, sex, sports, chronic disease relate to HRQOL.
