Objective:To study the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment and prognosis of incidental renal carcinoma.Method: Clinical data of 136 cases of renal carcinoma during six years (from Dem 1999 To Dem 2005) were retrospectively analyzed. According to the criteria,it can be categorized as incidental or symptomatic cases. The majority of patients received surgical resection, nephrectomy or partial nephrectomy. Additional therapy—chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy in combination。Results: There were 65 (47.8 %) cases of incidental RCC and 71 (52.2%) cases of symptomatic RCC and there was no significant difference between these two groups in patients'sex and age. Ultrasonography was the primary diagnostic technique for incidental RCC.The positive rate of Ultrasonography in this group is 91%.Incidental carcinomas had a less diameter and a lower stage ( P < 0. 05) than the symptomaticones. The 3-year or5-year survival rate was significantly higher in the incidental group than that in the symptomatic group. Tumor stage was the only independent prognostic parameter in binary logistic regression analysis. Conclusions : Incidental renal carcinoma is not another type of renal carcinoma, but a developing stage of renal carcinoma. Ultrasonography and CT are important to the diagnosis of incidental renal carcinoma. Lower pathological staging, small size, early diagnosis and the corresponding operation are the most important factors of better prognosis of incidental renal carcinoma.
