BACKGROUND OF RESEARCHNowadays the researches in the diagnosis and treatment of prostatic sarcoma are less than in prostatic adenocarcinoma. In the last few years, increasing the means of detection gradually and furthering the knowledge of prostatic sarcoma improved the accuracy of diagnosis, but the methods of treatment was less progress. We collected 11 cases of prostatic sarcoma in the urologic department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Medical College of Zhejiang University since 1984, and not only discussed their diagnosis and treatment but also followed up them after the treatment. Besides, we also studied some tumor samples of patients under light microscope. Our purpose is to summarize the successful experience and can offer some references to clinic surgeons so that maybe they can dealwith such patients more reasonably in the future.CLINIC DATA & METHODWe collected 11 cases of prostatic sarcoma in the urologic department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Medical College of Zhejiang University since 1984. We followed up them, generally analyzed their clinic manifestations, diagnosis, treatments and prognosis. All the datas were treated by the statistic SPSS 12.0. The Paired T test and the Chi-Square test were respectively applied in the prognosis and the age of the patients as well as the classifications of pathology. What's more, we further studied 2 tumor samples under the light microscope which had used HE routine dye.RESULTSThere were 10 patients followed up completely and only 1 patient lost of follow-up. In the 10 patients who were followed up, 5 ones were dead, another 5 were surviving. The results of the statistic analysis show us that the prognosis of the younger patients with prostatic sarcoma is better than that of the elder. Second, there are no obvious statistic differences in the prognosis of the patients whose classifications of pathology are different. Third, the patients who received the chemotherapy have better prognosisthan those did not. We also find that it's difficult to distinguish between the parenchyma and the interstitial of the tumor tissues under the light microscope.CONCLUSIONS1. The determination of PSA can not be used as accurate method to sift the prostatic sarcoma.2. DRE combining with B-type ultrasonic, CDU, CT and MRI has more valuable in the diagnosis of prostatic sarcoma.3. The younger of the patient with prostatic sarcoma, the more chances of the better prognosis.4. The pathology of prostatic sarcoma can not consider as a factor which may effect the prognosis.5. Auxiliary therapy including chemotherapy can increase the survival rate.6. Prostatic sarcoma is characterized that it is difficult to distinguish between the parenchyma and the interstitial of the tumor tissues under the light microscope.
