Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is one of the serious diseases which threat human being, they have very high incidence rate, specially nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and laryngeal cancer. Their early symptoms are atypical. Patients are usually less likely to arouse attention, as the majority of patients were treated in diagnosed at advanced stage and often miss the timing, resulting in poor quality of life and prognosis in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma and laryngeal cancer. Therefore, the advanced treatments of laryngeal cancer and NPC have important clinical significance. Research shows that, the targeted therapy is one of the good options for advanced treatment of cancer. These targeting anti-tumor drugs avoid the lack of specificity and toxicity of traditional chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Diagnosis and treatment of oncologists create a combination of a new era. The evaluation and treatment of tumor targeting, to a large extent depends on whether there is a good therapeutic target. So, to find a new therapeutic target is one of the important topics in the current research of NPC and laryngeal cancer. As a new therapeutic target t, folate receptors are paying attention, but the researches are less in the NPC and laryngeal cancer.OBJECTIVE: In this paper, the expression of folate receptors were detected with immnohistochemical assays in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and laryngeal cancer. The correlation of the expression of folate recptors and its Clinical features was investigated.METHODS: Immunohistochenical methods(SP) was used to examine the expression of folate receptors in 23 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, 42 laryngeal cancer, two control group. The results were compared.RESULTS: 1. The expression level of nasopharyngeal carcinoma: (1)α-FRs were expressed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line-1 and tissues, it assumes the low level expression in the comparison group 1, two groups don't expressβ-FRs;(2)The expressions was correlated with clinical staging(P<0.05); (3) The expression level ofα-FRs was closely correlated with lymph node metastasis(P<0.05)(;4)The expressions was not correlated with age, sex(P>0.05).2.The expression level of laryngeal cancer: (1)α-FRs were highly expressed in laryngeal cancer cell line-2 and tissues, it assumes the low level expression in the comparison group 2, two groups don't expressβ-FRs ;(2)The expressions was correlated with clinical staging( P<0.05); (3)The expression level ofα-FRs was closely correlated with lymph node metastasis(P<0.05);(4)The expression ofα-FRs in upper-glottic cancer was obviously higher than glottic cancer(P<0.05), but in other groups, the expression does not have the difference(P>0.05);(5)The expressions was correlated with sex(P<0.05),not correlated with age(P>0.05).CONCLUSION: (1)Folate receptor alpha was expressed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and laryngeal cancer, it assumes the low level expression in the comparison groups, they don't expressβ-FRs.(2)Folate receptor expressed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and laryngeal cancer of the obvious tumor specificity.(3)The expression in laryngeal cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer were correlated with staging and lymph node metastasis.(4)With folate receptor as a target, this experiment has provided the experimental basis to targeting treatment for laryngeal cancer and nasopharyngeal carcinoma for from now.
